Polls Got It Wrong AGAIN!

The results yesterday of Brexit votes clearly indicate how wrong polls continue to be. Obviously, these polls will be wrong since they repeatedly neglect the views of minority groups. The pollsters do no seem to understand that the world is more diverse today than years ago and polling only the White population is just not cutting it anymore. So, as the pollsters continue to silence the voices of minorities, election results such as was seen in President Obama's double win and this recent Brexit votes will continue to be a shock to those who keep relying on these biased polls.

After A Championship Win, What's Next for the Fans?

The Cleveland Cavaliers' recent win of the NBA Championship and the exuberance of the fans for winning a sport championship after so many decades brings up the question -  what's next after such fanfare of cheering for the team at homes, bars, or on the streets until the wee hours of the morning; after boasting to all of having the best sports team in the country; after excitedly watching the replays of the game highlights on sports channels, network news, etc; after seeing the ticker tape parade on television or going in person which may involve braving bad weather to see the "champions" as they drive comfortably along the streets with their families as high away as possible from the fans on Double Decker buses? What's next?  Certainly, fans won't be sharing in the professional athlete's wealth as they continue to bask in their multi-million dollar contracts and with even more re-numerations after a championship win. Fans won't have an opportunity to hold and enjoy the coveted trophy. Fans do not get to share in the exhilarant feeling of athletes as they place the championship diamond rings on their fingers. Fans do not get to visits the White House to be a part of the honor as they are congratulated by the President of the United States. This disconnect between the organization and athletes with fans will continue until the masses are once again needed to purchase tickets, attend games, and cheer on the team. So, what is there for the everyday dedicated fan after their team wins a championship - nothing - but fading memories that their team won a championship!

U.S. Embassy Flying the Rainbow Flag In A Homophobic Country

There was much discussion this week when the rainbow flag was flown at half-staff at the United States embassy in Jamaica in support and respect for the 49 persons who were murdered and those hospitalized from the Orlando night club shooting. Controversy began when the Attorney General, Marlene Malahoo-Forte, tweeted her dissatisfaction with the embassy's action in flying the rainbow flag which was disrespectful of Jamaican laws. This tweet incited a flurry of responses on social media for and against her stance. Some believed that in her capacity as the Attorney General, she should not have tweeted out such a controversial opinion. Furthermore, many felt that as a lawyer, former judge, and now Attorney General, she should have known that the U.S. embassy is considered a sovereign state that controls its own affairs. Others were concerned that her words would affect the U.S. approval of visa applications to Jamaicans. Yet, there are many who vocally and quietly support Mrs. Malahoo-Forte. Some of those persons believe that she spoke in the best interest of Jamaica where the buggery laws are still in existence and people openly denounce homosexuality. So, while they decry the mass shooting and sympathize with the family and friends of the victims, these Jamaicans feel that the United States embassy was inconsiderate and disrespectful of the country's laws and sentiments towards homosexuality by flying the rainbow flag. As such, they do not feel Mrs. Malahoo-Forte should have withdrawn her Twitter post. But, what was riveting were some of questions asked about the matter such as: why didn't the U.S. embassy fly a black flag or another symbolic flag at half-staff when the nine church goers were murdered in Charleston, South Carolina since this was considered a hate crime against the Black race. Another question is whether other U.S. embassies abroad flew the rainbow flag in countries such as Saudi Arabia. Guess we will not receive any answers to those questions.

Mohammad Ali's Principles Lacking In Professional Multi-Million Dollar Athletes

The media's great attention to Mohammad Ali's life after his passing highlights the significant impact that he had outside of the boxing ring. He was accepted by many Whites in the United States for his boxing abilities, yet his fame did not prevent him from facing racism as other Blacks encountered especially throughout the South such as in Miami where he could not go into stores such as Burdines Downtown (now Macy's) to buy shirts. Although Ali indicated that he was not smart, he certainly was intelligent enough to realize the racial hypocrisy that existed in the United States as it related to drafting African-American men to fight in the Vietnam war for a country that showed them no respect as human beings. He maintained his integrity when it meant that he would have to give up his love for boxing and go to jail. No professional athletes of color today and in recent eras can be compared to Ali and others during his time whose principles made them outspoken and stand up for what they believed was right. Athletes today and in recent eras would not dare jeopardize their flamboyant lifestyles to be outspoken as individuals or take on causes of the masses who they once identified with prior to fame and fortune. They seem content only with doing their yearly self-named public relations charity work so that the community will not have to wonder why they are not giving back. Nevertheless, their efforts are more commendable than the professional athletes you do not stand up for a cause or contribute to uplifting a community. Ali's selfless contribution to humanity is not an expected trait that have materialized in professional athletes since his era or is envisioned in the future.

"Look At My African American Over There"

Trumps comments is symbolic of when White buckra massa would point out his Black slaves for sale on the auction block without any conscience that children would be separated from their parents forever. He is a typical example of the saying, "he more things change, the more they remain the same". It is hard to believe he identified the supporter as "African American" and not the "n" word.

CBS's "Under Cover Boss" Defeats the Purpose of Rewarding Employees

An article in an international newspaper commented on a recent episode of CBS's "Undercover Boss" that featured Lowell Hawthorne, the franchise CEO of Golden Krust Caribbean Bakery and Grill. The writer of the article who is a native of Mr. Hawthorne's country expressed joy and pride in Hawthorne's rags to riches success as an immigrant in the United States. This program brings recognition to companies that may not be household names among many. Yet, it also shows up some inconsistencies that generate unanswered questions. The episodes portray franchise CEO's or top executives who briefly put aside their opulent lifestyle to work in disguise among low paid, struggling staff. However, the executives usually discover a disconnect between their franchise executive office and the realities among workers at the franchised companies. Surely mystery shoppers, customer feedback, and regular audits could alert the executives of the disconnects that are occurring within the franchises. However, the reality show must go on to play upon the audience's intelligence. The show is successful in projecting the tear jerking reaction of an audience to the sad experiences of four or five employees who are ultimately rewarded monetarily for their troubles or provided with other forms of compensation. But, what happens to the hundreds of other personnel who are also experiencing troubling situations but were not fortunate to be chosen to train the disguised CEO or franchise executive. The concept of helping a few overlooks the reality of the many others who are struggling to live on low franchise incomes.

White Based Presidential Pollsters Don't Get It!

Whenever media announcements are made of Presidential poll results from the Gallup, Quinnipiac, Rasmussen, the news network companies and others, it is quite certain that these results are predominantly reflective of the opinions of the White American population with little or no consideration given to minority voters. Widespread ignorance throughout the United States continues to identify minority voters with the African American and Latino communities. Many including the news media are oblivious that there are millions of other minority voters who are silently but rapidly growing as an ethnic American population throughout the United States. The Asian community is an example of a group that is expanding in numbers and strength. This population will have a significant impact on the upcoming elections and even more so on other elections thereafter. One should only notice the recent top 10 competitors in the Scripps Spelling Bee to determine the great niche that this population is carving out for themselves in the United States. Another steadily growing population is the English speaking Caribbean community who, similar to the Asian American population, are becoming U.S. citizens and voters in great numbers. While the American media and polls are in la la land about these "other" categorized citizens, these populations continue to be influenced in their voting decisions by information they receive on popular ethnic radio programs. The White dominant pollsters' incorrect predictions on Barack Obama's two presidential bids show that they are out-of-touch with these millions of other well-educated minority voters who are not considered in the White based polls.
