Was Selma Snubbed for This Reason?

Some people have complained that the film, Selma, was snubbed by the Oscar committee. Martin Luther King, Jr. led many in the struggles to end discrimination against African Americans, and his achievements will never be forgotten. However, could it be possible that in spite of the excellent production, direction, and acting, the Selma story is already so well known that it does not alert attention as a film such as Twelve Years of Slavery which was an intriguing unknown story? So, while Selma is a historic portrayal of the unforgettable and unfortunate events during the 1960s, there are many unknown slavery and civil rights stories that need to be told through film. Surely, those movies will gain film industry accolades.
