Principal/Teachers Undertaking Security Responsibilities

The staff at Sandy Hook Elementary was not only educators but they seemed to also be the security personnel! It is outrageous how there was no security staff to address the matter and the Principal and other staff had to take on such a responsibility of confronting the shooter instead of focusing on administering and maintaining the code red lock down procedures. Reports are that the district does not have enough money to place security personnel in each schools. How ironic especially in such an affluent community! The incident in Newtown shows that security personnel is vital in every school regardless of the impression that it is a safe community so no crime will be committed.

Gun Loving Country

On Black Friday, hundreds of thousands of guns were purchasaed. Even on the day of the shooting in Newtown, thousands of guns were purchased all over the country. In fact, Nancy Lanza was "a gun enthusiast" as described by her friend. Apparently she was a fan of the contributor to her death since she owned three guns including a high power gun in her possession. That is so crazy!! Nevertheless, the gun situation has already gotten out of hand, and at this point it is far too late to curb the problem. In the meantime, innocent lives will continue to be lost because of the free for all gun totten mentality of so many in this country who believe that the second amendment gives them the right to have a gun. What a shame that the same people who are mourning the death of these innocent children and educators are the same people who possess guns.

Sandy Hook Elementary Shooting

My heart goes out to the families of the victims of the senseless shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School. It is unimaginable losing lives in such an act especially lives so young. Too many of these senseless shootings keep occuring everyday, yet certain Congress persons continue to avoid addressing the question of gun control especially since they are under the financial influence of lobbiest. They have not responded when hundreds of youth in Chicago and other cities have died as a result of gun violence. Will they respond now? The NRA sent out a statement that they have no comments, but when they do, it will be very interesting to hear what they say. The second observation is the comments on the news that such an incident never should have occurred in Newtown, for a number of reasons such as follows: nice place to live, good schools, beautiful countryside homes, original New England homes, middle class, tight-knit community, everybody is happy, family oriented community, never any crimes, every one knows everyone, terrific quality of life, etc. etc. etc. So, it appears that for such idealistic reasons, the residents of Newtown just simply let down their guard since not living in a big city with a diverse, cultural populations caused them to believe that no violent crimes could occur. However, crime is not partial to a town with such characteristice -- crime occurs everywhere.

American Giving Awards

I can not understand why a charitable organization competition would ever be considered. I viewed Chase Bank's American Giving Award on television and could not stop wondering - how could anyone be a judge of charitable organizations to determine that one organization is better than another. All of the nominated organizations at the televised award are equally deserving in their own right since they all serve the needs of the disadvantage. So, how could one be deemed as "better" than the other. Was this year's competition judged on how many FaceBook friends the organization managed to secure and how an organization was able to get people to write the organization's logo on their foreheads? If these were criteria for judging, then there is no surprise how the winner of this year's competition was selected. Otherwise, who is to say that serving the needs of poor girls in an African country is a better charitable duty than preventing slave practices of youth smuggled into the United States. Or who is to say that giving children in foster homes a voice may not be as important as using reading materials to educate children throughout the world? Instead of bestowing the chosen organization with so much prize money, why not give this well needed money to all the organizations?

Use of Electronic Devices Is Out of Hand!

What is this world coming to when people see someone in harm but do nothing to help? The recent New York incident where a man was pushed onto the subway tracks and was eventually run over by a train is only one of the many situations where the human kindness of man is no longer important and evident. Instead, people are more concerned with using their electronic devices to capture incidents. It is frightening to know that the use of these electronic devices have overtaken the importance of being kind to each other. Shame on those people who stood on the platform and did not help the victim on the tracks.....what goes around, comes around!

Romney's Blame Game

After Romney's over-confidence was deflated by a humiliating and unexpected defeat, he now needs to find an excuse to avoid further scrutiny and bad mouthing from his GOP buddies on his poorly ran, expensive presidential campaign. So, he is now accusing the President of winning because he promised "gifts" to the minorities. Well, that is exactly why he lost the minority vote because minorities could easily see that he has no love or use for them. They could see his fakeness a mile away! So, his statement only shows who the real Romney is - one who has no liking or respect for minorities. In fact, it would be interesting to know his reaction to his loss in Iowa, a state where finding minorities is like searching for a needle in a haystack. So, is he also blaming the very few minorities in this state for his embarrassing loss? Even, his own state - who is he accusing for that loss? He needs to get over the fact that he will never be president of the United States, lay of the 47%, and move on!

Go Ahead with Secession!

Here we go again with the secession discussions! If you were to ask these people why they signed a petition to secede from the union, you will hear all sorts of reasons from the economy to unemployment. But, many do not have the guts to say, once outside of their comfort zone, that the truth is they just don't like President Obama because he is Black, and they do not want a Black man to be the President of the United States. Well, I say, give these people the opportunity to secede and live in a secluded community where intelligent citizens of the United States do not have to associate with them and their racial views! In fact, it would be a great joy for some of these unfamiliar states to secede from the union! Quite frankly, those states won't be missed one way or the other as you never generally hear any major news coming from those dreary places. So, go ahead!

Florida Poor Leadership Exposed

The attempt by the Florida governor, Rick Scott, and his Republican dominated legislation to suppress the vote by reducing election days and crowding the ballot with unnecessary questions resulted in the state being made a laughing stock of the nation. One Republican state Representative, Mike Bennet, even went so far as to say that Florida makes voting too easy, and voters should go through a difficult process like people in Africa! According to him, "Why would we make it any easier? I want 'em to fight for it. I want 'em to know what it's like. I want them to go down there, and have to walk across town to go over and vote." So, his oppressive intentions and that of other Florida senators such as Miguel Diaz De La Portilla resulted in an exposure of the poor judgment and leadership of the state along a lack of respect for the voters. The selfish tactics created an embarrassment for the state of Florida.

Questionable Election Polling

The polls conducted during the elections seemed to have given an impression and an air of confidence to the GOP of their imminent victory. Spokes persons for the GOP went on television programs to express that victory would occur in favor of Romney who would win the key states. Moreover, Romney wrote a victory speech and apparently he gave no consideration to writing a speech to concede victory. Further, Karl Rove seemed to have a melt down when hearing that the election was called in favor of President Obama. Overall, the bewildered and angry expressions of the Republicans on election night showed that they were caught off guard by shocking news of their clear defeat. It is always a mystery as to who these pollsters are calling. From listening to a number of minority call-in discussion radio programs, these groups of people do not seem to be considered or involved in the polling process or outcomes. If they did, then the results of the polls would have certainly demonstrated that the election was heading in favor of President Obama.

The Two Faces of Ole Miss - Racism Alive and Well!

The student demonstration at Ole Miss on election night shows that centuries have passed, yet hatred of Blacks have now been instilled in the thinking of young people such as the students who participated in the demonstration. So, this demonstration highlighted that racism is alive and well among so many people. Yet, it's quite ironic how these people are so gun ho when it comes to cheering for their football team which, by the way, has generally fielded more Black than White athletes over the years! I guess that is the two faces of Ole Miss! Times certainly haven't changed much since James Meredith had to be escorted by security on to the premises of the Ole Miss's campus just to simply get an education.

Republican Party Out of Touch

On election night, President Obama gave a victory speech to an audience of Blacks, Whites, Hispanics, Asians, Indians, Middle Easterners, Gays, Lesbians, etc., etc., etc. The audience demonstrated the make up of United States in the 21 century. On the other hand, the video of Mitt Romney's speech provided an eerie image of a predominantly white audience and gave the impression of a political gathering in the 1950s or so. After losing the 2008 elections, the GOP acknowledged the need to diversify the party since their loss indicated that major minority groups voted for President Obama. However, it appears that this statement did not go anywhere since the GOP is echoing the same need for the party after the 2012 elections. A great many Repubicans are set in their thinking about other races. So it will be a challenge for them to welcome other races with open arms. However, as the country continues to diversify with the growth of the minority population, the sooner the GOP begins to agressively work on this problem, the better chance the party will have to win any future elections.

True the Vote Suppression Tactics

What's up with True the Vote, a Republican group of white people associated with the Tea Party. They are expected to go into polling stations located in the Black and minority communities on Election Day. They say that their intentions are to prevent voter fraud??!! But, their clear intentions are to intimidate Black and minority voters so that they will not vote. This may be the 21st century, but some people's attitudes towards people of color remains the same!

Suppressing the Right of Minorities to Vote

How times have not changed! Centuries ago, all efforts were made to prevent certain people from voting, and here we go again! Rick Scott and the Republican dominated Florida legislation have made all efforts to prevent voters from participating in early voting. Not only have they implemented laws to reduce the early voting days from 14 to 8 days, but they have also made sure that the ballot is so long and complex that it has taken thousands of people at least four hours in Miami-Dade and Broward counties to complete the voting process! Worse, Scott refused to add one day more to allow thousands of people an opportunity to early vote due to the massive turnout. Florida is certainly evident that the oppressive system of voter restriction is a reality! The more things change, the more they remain the same! Just venting!

Citizen's Property Insurance - Shame On You!

Citizens Property Insurance - "insurance of last resort" for the state of Florida is like a vulture! The company is "suppose" to be a reasonable option for those home owners who cannot afford to obtain coverage from private insurance companies. However, the company is doing all that is possible to raise coverages. This years they required homeowners to open their doors to inspectors who were trained to find problems so as to create a reason to raise the insurance rates. However, there were so many complains from customers who luckily had documentation that the so called errors on the Citizen's reports were fictitious. So, the numerous complaints and media coverage caused Citizens to have to schedule re-inspections of the thousands of homes previously inspected. Now, Citizens announced that they intend to raise insurance rates in January, 2013. The company will stop at no end to sock it to homeowners who cannot afford these astronomical increases. The executives of the company have no conscience.

Background Check on Parents by the Florida Governor!

Florida's Governor Rick Scott has taken background check to the next level. He is now requesting that parents attending education forums who want to talk to him about public education should go through a background check! This is a first for any governor of Florida. A parent was recently denied the oppportunity to attend one of these forums because of a questionable background check. Ironically, this parent works with children and must have a background check to be cleared for employment. Since no information was forthcoming from the governor's office as to why the parent was denied entry into the forum, the parent paid her money and did a recent background check on herself to see if any questionable information would be identified. Of course, no derogatory information was identified, and the governor's office is now playing the blame game on their own law enforcement office. Could it be that she was denied because she is a Democrat?

Where Was Marco Rubio During Paul Ryan's Miami Visit?

Paul Ryan was courting the Cuban-American vote in Miami but........where was Marco Rubio? All the other Cuban-American GOP Congressional politician were seen. (besides David Rivera, who needs to keep a low profile with so many scandals - lol). But, Marco Rubio was noticeably absent from the videos in his hometown among his Cuban-American people. Further, in an interview with the local station political reporter Michael Putney, Ryan gave shout outs to Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, along with Lincoln and Mario Diaz-Balart for informing him on the complexities of lifting the embargo on Cuba..........no mention of gaining any knowledge from Marco Rubio............Hmmh!

Since Kate is one of the most photographed women in the world, and she is a "royal", then why would she put herself in a position by going topless outside regardless of whether she was on private property. From Princess Diana's experiences with the paparazzi, it is obvious that these people will do anything to get a photo of these "royalties" that are worth millions of dollars. So, Kate needs to keep her clothes on outside the house if she is so concerned with being photographed. She should know better. The lawsuit is nonsense!

Right Wing Tea Party members are being trained to intimidate minorities at their polling places. These republicans are even taking vigilante steps on the internet to fish out Democratic voters. What's up with dat??!! To those people, it's not gonna work!!! In fact, it would be quite hilarious and a brave act for any Tea Partier to visit polling stations located in primarily African American or Latino communities let alone try scare tactics to intimidate those residents! (lol) That would a daring and stupid action!

Media - Overlooking Valuable Athletes

What's up with Olympians not meddling but receiving excessive media coverage while some who are in fact meddling for team USA are receiving little or no media coverage. For example - Lola Jones even after not meddling in the 100 meters hurdle in 2008 or even the London Olympic Games, is still receiving more media coverage than ever! For what??!! Tonight, WFOR Miami's sports reporter, Joe Rose, announced that Lola didn't make it in the race. However, he failed to mention that Dawn Harper and Kelly Wells made it by receiving the silver and bronze medals respectively. Furthermore Dawn won the gold in 100 meters hurdles in the 2008 Olympics but these efforts seem to be overlooked by the media. I wonder why?

Why do the American coaches seem to always cry foul whenever someone from another country exceeds expectations? A case that comes to mind is the Susan Smith case, where she lied that black men hijacked her car with her two children when, in fact, she manuvered the car herself into a lake killing the children Now, Rene Betancourt, a skateboarder in Miami who claimed that he was severly beaten and robbed by five black men when it was quite obvious on the video that his pranks caused him to skateboard into a concrete wall which resulted in him being knocked unconscious and suffering severe head damages. Amazing!! When will it ever end!

Dr. Shaquille O'Neal

I generally do not associate athletes with education - especially famous ones. However, some weeks Shaq became Dr. Shaquille O'Neal after graduating from Barry University with an Ed.D. Now I was never a fan of Mr. O'Neal as a basketball play, especially with his tendency to dis coaches and other teams after he was traded. However, I was taken aback by his commitment to education right up to the doctorate level especially since he certainly did not need to do this. Now, I see him as a role model to other young men as this demonstrate that even after accomplishing fame and fortune from playing a sport, education is still the key. Frankly, playing a sport will not last forever, but possessing a well rounded education will be around for sometime to come.

A New Take on Cannabalistic Behavior

When one person can engage in a cannibalistic act of chewing off another person's face and leaving only their beard, you have to wonder what is this world coming to! It is unimaginable how anyone, even under drugs, can snap in such a horrific manner to do such an unimaginable act on another person. His mother says that he should be tasered versus shot. My prayers go out to the victim, Mr. Poppo who is now without a face, eyes, nose, and mouth. Unbelievable!!

David Smith received a 6 year sentence in Turks and Caicos Island and also 30 years in the United States District Court for his fraudulent money laundering and other illegal actions in running a ponzi scheme as the boss of Olint. The sentencings demonstrate that the illegal scheme stretched from the Caribbean to the USA. Recent news releases indicate that the Supreme Court of Turks and Caicos Island named some of the recepients of the millions of dollars that Smith duped his investors. For example, a former prime minister of Jamaica, and government ministers of the two major political parties in the same country gained from $50,0000 U.S. to as much as millions of U.S. dollars from the scheme. The news release indicates the former prime minister received $1 million U.S.!!! David Smith defrauded hundreds of thousands of clients more than $220 million dollars, and those people who received those funds need to pay back the ill gained money.

Unfair Insurance Policies

Citizens Property Insurance Corporation is intended to be the insurance of last resort for homeowners in the state of Florida. So, those who are unable to readily secure insurance or pay the exhorbitant rates of other companies rely on Citizens for coverage. However, since the insurance board did not approve Citizen's request for a high rate increase, the insurers now plan to dump thousands of policies and thereby leave homeowners in the hole. Even prior to this announcement, the company has been sticking it to policy holders expecially in S. Florida where premiums are the highest in the state although S. Florida has not seen a severe hurricane for some years in comparison to the Gulf Coast and other parts of Florida. Play fair Citizens!

Cut Projects for the Needy - Approve Rowing Center!

Gov. Rick Scott has cut millions from the budget that was proposed for autism, Alzheimer's care, disadvantage youth, clinics, and other projects for the needy. However, he deemed that a rowing center in Sarasota was worthy of receiving $5 million funding!

George Zimmerman - Is This A Money Issue

It is quite strange that even after having a father who was a judge that the family is claiming that they are having difficulties coming up with 10% of the $150,000 bond! There has to be more to the story.........is it that the family just don't want to put any asset on the line for George since they simple don't trust his judgement or what he will do once he is released? Hmmmh!

Secret Service Agents / Colombia Prosititue Scandal

The Secret Service agents do not only have to fear losing their jobs simply because one of their own refused to pay up after receiving the services. But, even worse, I can only image them having to deal with the issue back home with their wives. Wouldn't you want to be a fly on the wall in those households?

Bad Influence On the Biggest Loser

The April 18 episode showed the refusal of the last five standing to continue with training because they disagreed with the executives' decision to bring back returning cast members. Four of the five were influenced by one man. This man is a great example of someone who preys on the vulnerabiities of people and influences their minds. These overbearing personalities can be found on court juries, part of mob incidents, etc. etc.. However, it was good to see that three contestants decided not to be influenced and went ahead with the competition especially since they signed a contract against not walking away from the show. I wonder if the two were allowed to break the contract.

For a SuperBowl commercial Acura agents advertised for an African-American who is "not too dark". Now, really Acura that is so wrong! Could the company not have made their racial bias so obvious. But, now it's known.

She Really Has Never Worked a Day in Her Life

Ann Romney, in spite of her claims, have NEVER had to work a day in her life! Her claims about being a stay at home Mom......bullshit! She stayed at home, but not to take care of those boys......that was the nannies' and housekeepers' responsibility. And, in regards to her "illness", there are millions of women experiencing the same illness, but they do not have the financial ability to overcome it as she has. So, Ann Romney, you are not very convincing! There should have never been any apologies for claiming that she has never worked a day in her life because it is true!

It is a shame that in this country, USA, where freedom of speech is such a major right of the people, that one cannot speak freely in Miami on Cuba, Fidel Castro, etc. If the masses of the Cuban old timers in Miami are not in agreement with what is said they make a big deal out of nothing. Some of these old timers have never been back to Cuba for well over 40 or so years! These people have nothing better to do!
